We’re supporting the Bridgnorth Rights of Way Group

The Association was set up in 2017 to support the upkeep of rights of way in and around Bridgnorth. One of the great things about cycling both on and off road is getting out and enjoying the wonderful Shropshire countryside. By supporting the working parties orgainsed by the Association you can help maintain access.

Keep an eye on their website for details of working parties and perhaps spare a few hours to support.  http://bridgnorthrightsofway.weebly.com/

Bridgnorth CC featured by Cycling Weekly

In March 2018 we were selected by Cycling Weekly to feature in the Ride With series.

Every week the magazine teams up with a club and joins them on a club ride. We were blessed with weather that was cold but didn’t feature any of the frozen roads or snow of recent weeks. Wrapped up against the cold the club took CW on 40 mile route including a stop at one of our favourite cafes. We also took the opportunity to present a cheque of funds raised at our Christmas party to a local charity.

The article features a brief history of the club, comments from members and a route map.

We’ve been fortunate to be given the photos from the day by Andy Jones Photography, a selection of which is available below.

Continuing our support of local charities

When we held our Christmas Party (in January !)  we had a raffle with some fantastic prizes donated by local businesses. The raffle raised over £200 and as usual we chose a local charity to donate the proceeds to, this time Oak Farm Friends Association.

Oak Farm is a smallholding in Ditton Priors that provides a day service for adults with learning difficulties within the local area.

Here you can see members of the club handing the “big cheque” over to Andy and Elliott Clee from Oak Farm.

Mayor of Bridgnorth pays us a visit

Saturday was a special day for us here at Bridgnorth Cycle Club as we entertained special visitors, The Mayor and Mayoress of Bridgnorth.

The event was to showcase a number of sports related clubs and businesses in Bridgnorth and was hosted at the recently opened Gym Club. Bridgnorth based Clee Cycles also came along to help BCC celebrate the growth of the cycle club and to promote cycling and fitness in the town.

Bridgnorth Cycle Club has seen a terrific year which began with our Sportive back in February where we had over 120 riders from across the county riding a tough route through the very cold but picturesque Shropshire countryside. There has been a steady stream of new riders joining the club with over 30 this year, from those just starting out in the sport to a group who regular take part in local sportive rides, the highlight of the season being Sunday’s Velo Birmingham.

Our mountain bike section is, as always, out there come rain or shine with regular Tuesday night rides and we were again proud to lend our support to the Midlands Cross Series race at the Dudmaston circuit.

We run regular rides throughout the year starting from Clee Cycles, keep an eye on our Facebook page or check back here for details.

Supporting Bridgnorth First Responders

We’re proud to be able to support a vital local service.

Following our Reliability ride where over 100 riders took part in two rides over 35 and 55 miles we have been able to make a donation to the Bridgnorth First Responders.

Barry Goodyear Chair of BCC presented the cheque to Chris Phillips outside Clee Cycles before last Sunday’s club run.

We’ll be running the event again in 2018, it forms part of a series of winter rides organised by all the cycling clubs across Shropshire.
